I really wanted to make sure this year we did something super fun for spring break. After weighing all the options with the kids, we booked everything we needed for a vacation to Southern California. After a long wait, the day finally came to leave. Our flight was scheduled to leave super early in the morning and we were going to head straight from the airport to Lego Land!
Around 4:00 am I got a call from JetBlue telling me that our flight information had changed and to contact them for further details. Once I called them they informed me that the flight had been canceled completely because of mechanical problems and that they couldn't get all three of us on another flight until Saturday. The only other option I had was to refund me the cost of my flights. The tears started flowing as I thought about how to tell my kids this disappointing news. Thankfully, I have the sweetest, cutest, best kids in the world. When I explained the story to them Kylee quickly responded with, "why don't we just drive?" and Cannon said "Yeah, lets just drive." They didn't care at all that we had to spend 13 hours in the car now instead of 2 hours in an airplane.
Since we were already up to get ready to catch our flight, we just got in the car and left.
We loved watching the sun rise up over the mountains.
We cranked the tunes and played games and really enjoyed ourselves.
When this song came up on the playlist, Kylee said it should be the theme of our vacation. I thought that was such a cute thing to say. It doesn't matter what happens..we are going to make it Nothing but a Good Time. :)
We made great time and made it all the way to Vegas before noon. We stopped for some lunch and I asked Siri to take me to the nearest park. Being in Vegas, I was a little nervous about where she might take me.
But she took us to an awesome park not far from the freeway.
We stretched our legs and got out some energy and then got back on the road.
At one point I looked in my rear view mirror to see both kids like this. They were watching movies on their ipads and the glare of the sun was too much for them. It made me laugh.
We got to our hotel and we were very happy to get out of the car.
Even though it was a very long drive, these two didn't complain ONCE.
They made it so fun and the drive went by super quick.
We got in our swimsuits and hit the pool.
Then we went to find some dinner and watched the sunset by the ocean.
It was a great first day of vacation.
